China realizes quantum computer-driven mobile network algorithm validation

On July 10, China Mobile Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as "China Mobile"), in cooperation with Primary Quantum Computing Technology (Hefei) Company Limited (hereinafter referred to as "Primary Quantum"), successfully realized China's first case of communication network optimization algorithm validation based on a real general-purpose quantum computer. (hereinafter referred to as "Primary Quantum"), successfully achieved China's first verification of communication network optimization algorithm based on a real general-purpose quantum computer, and the preliminary results meet the expected requirements.

On June 30th of this year, Primary Quantum signed a memorandum of cooperation with China Mobile, in which the two parties reached a cooperation agreement on "quantum computation and algorithms in the field of communication", and jointly promoted the integration of quantum computation into the mobile information network centered on the communication network and the arithmetic network.

According to Dou Manghan, director of the software center of Origin Quantum, for the optimization of large-scale antenna parameters of base stations in 5G networks, Origin Quantum has initially proved the feasibility of quantum algorithms in this type of specific problems through effective modeling, algorithm design, and real-machine validation, and has become the first case in China to use quantum computers in real-machine validation of algorithms for communication networks.

Cui Chunfeng, president of Future Research Institute of China Mobile Research Institute, said that it is currently in the stage of 5G operation and 6G R&D. 6G will be a mobile information network with the convergence of perception, communication, computation, intelligence, big data, and security, which will realize the ubiquitous connectivity of human-machine-objects, and become a bridge between the physical world and the virtual world. Therefore, 6G will face computational challenges such as larger-scale service optimization, larger-scale network optimization, larger-scale signal processing and machine learning large model training, and classical computation and algorithms are under tremendous pressure.

At present, global quantum computing is steadily developing, and has already been applied on a pilot basis in some high-computing-power-demanding industries. "We would like to try to start with small-scale problems in some typical scenarios to assess and verify the feasibility of quantum computing applications in communication networks, especially in 6G." Cui Chunfeng said.

Cui Chunfeng said that in the future, China Mobile will further expand the scale and type of problems, design quantum algorithms with better performance, and promote the stage-by-stage integration of quantum computing into communication networks. Through the integration of quantum computing and communication innovation, drive the integration of quantum computing and communication industry, and explore the leapfrog path for the development of mobile information network.
