Strangeworks Raises $24 Million in Series A Funding with Hitachi, IBM Participation
Texas-based Strangeworks, Inc. recently announced the closing of its $24 million Series A financing round. The round was led by world-class investors: Hitachi Ventures, a subsidiary of Hitachi, led by IBM and Raytheon Technologies, with follow-on participation from seed investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Great Point Ventures and Ecliptic Capital, solidifying Strangeworks' growth trajectory over the next 5 years.

With this investment, Strangeworks expanded its core team by 40% in Q4 2022 and will be able to offer a broader range of technologies beyond quantum computing, including quantum-inspired algorithms, high-performance computing and artificial intelligence. This enables Strangeworks to deliver immediate business value to enterprises while helping them prepare for the ever-changing computing landscape.
"Today's announcement represents an important milestone for Strangeworks," said founder and CEO whurley, "Five years ago, I delivered our first quantum computing keynote at SXSW. Since that day, the team has remained focused on our core mission of continually exceeding industry expectations while working to manage capital. The challenging economic environment to raise Series A funding from these distinguished investors sends a clear message to the market that enterprise companies are betting on the race to create quantum value."
"Hitachi has identified quantum computing as a key technology to drive society forward and develop its own quantum technologies and quantum-inspired solutions. Quantum computing has the potential to help solve some of the world's most pressing problems, from combating climate change to treating deadly diseases, which require far more computing power than is currently available in traditional computers. the Strangeworks platform removes barriers to accessing quantum and quantum-inspired solutions that are already creating customer value today. " noted Dr. Norihiro Suzuki, Hitachi's Chief Technology Officer. "Strangeworks allows simple and fast deployment of quantum resources so customers can focus on the business applications they are developing. The overwhelming customer interest is a testament to this demand," added Tobias Jahn, a partner at Hitachi Ventures.
The Strangeworks ecosystem has passed Beta testing with select enterprises in 2022 and is now available to all. To learn more or get started, visit the corporate website at
