IDC leader Equinix to launch commercial quantum computer by the end of the year

Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC), a British quantum computing company, is installing a quantum computer at Equinix's data center in Tokyo, Japan.

On March 14, digital infrastructure company Equinix, Inc. announced that OQC aims to build the most powerful global enterprise commercial quantum computer through Equinix's TY11 Tokyo International Business Exchange (IBX) data center.

OQC is currently installing its quantum hardware in the TY11 center and plans to leverage Equinix's on-demand interconnect solution, Equinix Fabric, to deliver its quantum computing services to global enterprises and organizations on Equinix's global platform by the end of 2023.

Once connected to Equinix Fabric, enterprises can have easy access to quantum computing services as if they were local, meaning they can securely and easily connect to quantum computing services through their own digital infrastructure. Demand is expected to grow, with technology support expanding from drug development to a wide range of areas in risk management, banking and advanced manufacturing.
