Shenzhen Institute of Quantum Science and Engineering establishes Center for Integrated Circuits and Electronics
Quantum computing is a disruptive computing paradigm based on quantum mechanics, with unparalleled information carrying capacity and parallel processing capability for classical computing technologies, while consuming less energy. Given its importance and feasibility, countries around the world today are releasing quantum computing technology strategies to seize the future economic high ground. The experimental research of quantum computing has gradually developed from a basic science problem to a system engineering problem, which requires in-depth cooperation between scientific talents from different fields to overcome the difficulties.
In order to enhance the scientific research capability in quantum computing and other fields, on October 26, Shenzhen Institute of Quantum Science and Engineering decided to establish the Center for Integrated Circuits and Electronics, which is attached to the direction of quantum computing.
The golden eagle represents the determination of Shenzhen (Pengcheng) in quantum science; the "white cat/black cat" Xiaoping quantum cat state represents the spirit and tradition of Shenzhen of pragmatism and innovation; Ψ is the wave function of Schrödinger equation, 0/1 is the quantum state, representing the research field of quantum science.
The Center for Integrated Circuits and Electronics has initially established a high-level team with cross-disciplinary and experienced engineering research and development, and has planned and built an integrated circuit design and low-temperature electronics platform with an area of 255 square meters.
As one of the first three "ten basic research institutions", Shenzhen Institute of Quantum Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as "Shenzhen Institute of Quantum Research") was listed in January 2018, with Yu Dapeng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as its president.
Relying on the Southern University of Science and Technology for construction and management, the Shenzhen Institute of Quantum Research will explore cutting-edge fundamental scientific issues in the field of quantum information and serve the major needs of Shenzhen in the fields of quantum communication, high-performance computing technology and precision measurement, quantum materials and other areas of technology and industrialization. Shenzhen Institute of Quantum Research will strive to, solve a large number of key scientific and engineering problems in the field of quantum information, train a number of scientific masters with international influence, and build into a basic research institution with significant international influence.
The center focuses on the core engineering problems facing the field of quantum computing, including integrated circuit design, measurement and control system development and RF/microwave device development. In terms of devices, the center will work on solving "neck" key devices; in terms of low-temperature electronics, the center plans to carry out low-temperature integrated circuit design; in terms of measurement and control systems, the center will promote the development of universal measurement and control systems that support large-scale quantum bits, as well as quantum sensing, advanced instrumentation and other areas of engineering development tasks. .
