Tsinghua Quantum Information Class merged with Yao Class and Zhi Class, with computer, AI and quantum majors of your choice

On August 19, Tsinghua University's Institute of Cross-Information released the announcement "The Institute of Cross-Information will optimize the undergraduate training model", merging the quantum information class established last year with Yao's class and Zhi's class. The announcement is as follows.

Since the establishment of the Experimental Class of Computer Science (Yao Class) by President Yao in 2005, we have made great achievements; later, we have added the Class of Artificial Intelligence (Zhi Class) and the Class of Quantum Information (Quanxin Class) in 2019 and 2021 to strengthen the cultivation of top innovative talents in the new era. In recent years, the Institute of Cross-Information has not only improved its teaching faculty, but also advanced its student training programs with the times. In order to further broaden students' basic academic development and optimize the choice of professional direction, the undergraduate training model is adjusted with the following specific points.

 

(1) The three academic classes: Yao Class, Zhi Class, and Quantitative Information Class (covering the classes of 2019-2022) are merged into one and will be unified in the future as: Computer Science Experimental Class (Yao Class for short).

 

(2) Yao Class has three professional training directions under it.

 

Computer Science and Technology.

Artificial intelligence.

Quantum information.

 

(3)Undergraduates are free to choose their major direction at the end of their freshman year according to their interests and aspirations.

 

(4)Undergraduates who meet the requirements of the training program of the corresponding direction are awarded the engineering degree: Computer Science and Technology (Computer Science Experimental Class).

 

The above adjustment has been approved by the relevant authorities of the university and will be implemented from August 2022.

 

This means that students in the new Computer Science Experimental Class can be exposed to the three majors of Computer Science and Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Information at the same time in their freshman year, which not only achieves the optimization of the cultivation mode, but also helps to promote the intersection research of Quantum Information with Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, so that they can better land.

 

01Yao Class, Zhi Class and Quantum Information Class: Cultivating Top Scientific and Technological Talents

 

Tsinghua Yao Class, known as "Tsinghua Academy Computer Science Experimental Class", was founded in 2005 by Professor Yao Qizhi, the world-renowned computer scientist and the only Chinese who won the Turing Award (Turing Prize: "Nobel Prize in Computer Science"). It is committed to creating a deep class comparable to the computer science majors at MIT and Princeton University, and to cultivating highly advanced talents in the field of computer and information science.

 

Yao's class is equipped with a strong international faculty and adopts the "teaching according to ability" and "deep plowing and cultivation" training model, and builds a multi-faceted high-end international academic exchange platform, aiming to cultivate "the best undergraduate students We aim to cultivate "the best undergraduate students" and achieve "the best undergraduate education". For example, the three founders of Kuangwei Technology, the world's "No. 1 stock" in artificial intelligence, Yin Qi, Tang Wenbin and Yang Mu, all came from Tsinghua Yao class.

 

In May 2019, Tsinghua University announced the establishment of the "Artificial Intelligence Academy Class". The class is also led by Mr. Yao Qizhi and taught by himself, and is on par with Yao's class, known as the "Smart Class". The class is more directly oriented to AI, and is dedicated to cultivating top-notch research and innovation talents who will lead the world in AI.

 

In 2021, the "Tsinghua University Quantum Information Class" (link: the first undergraduate quantum information class in China has completed its first enrollment) was officially established, with Turing Award winner Yao Qiqi as the chief professor. This is the first undergraduate talent training program in the direction of quantum information at Tsinghua University, and the third program for the cultivation of top innovative talents founded by Academician Yao after the experimental class of computer science and the class of artificial intelligence.

 

The main features of the quantum information class are broad-based, cross-cutting, practical research, and the combination of theory and experiment. The Institute of Cross-Information is equipped with a first-class international faculty, advanced experimental platform, cutting-edge curriculum design and multidisciplinary training program. The core courses include quantum complexity theory, quantum computer science, statistical physics and quantum many-body theory, quantum mechanics and quantum open systems, physical microelectronics experiment, quantum information experiment, quantum communication and cryptography, quantum and artificial intelligence, quantum electronics and advanced quantum physics, advanced quantum informatics, etc.
