IonQ becomes the first pure quantum computing company to be named as one of TIME’s 100 most influential companies

On March 31, IONQ (NYSE: IONQ), a leader in ion trap quantum computing, was named to Time magazine's annual list of the 100 Most Powerful Companies. This ranking highlights 100 companies with extraordinary impact across the globe.

Peter Chapman, President and CEO of IonQ, said: "It is an honor to be one of the 2022 Time Magazine 100 Most Influential Companies, Time Magazine's recognition of the impact of quantum computing, and recognition of IonQ as an industry leader. The specific recognition of the role underscores our viability and promise as we usher in the era of quantum computing."

IonQ was selected in the "New Frontiers" category. To assemble the list, Time solicited nominations from editors, journalists and industry experts around the world in fields ranging from healthcare and entertainment to transportation and technology. Time magazine editors then evaluated each nominee based on factors such as company relevance, impact, innovation, leadership and success.

IonQ's inclusion in the Time 100 is the company's latest achievement in a year of strong business and technological breakthrough momentum.

On Monday, IonQ released the company's financials for the fourth quarter of 2021 and the full year of 2021. At the launch, the team highlighted significant technological advancements and announced that its order intake has more than tripled its initial forecast. In October last year, IonQ became the first pure quantum computing company to go public.

As for technological breakthroughs, this year, based on standards-based application-oriented industry benchmarks, IonQ launched the world's most powerful quantum computer, the IonQ Aria; a new quantum gate was discovered to accelerate quantum algorithms, only available at IonQ and Duke University system; became the first company to use barium ions as qubits to further enable advanced quantum computing architectures; and established a public-private manufacturing partnership with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) to produce barium qubits. IonQ is also the only quantum hardware company with access to computers on all three major cloud providers, whose computers are being used to solve problems ranging from financial modeling to electric vehicle battery chemistry and risk management.
