Alphabet's secretive quantum technology group plans to spin out into an independent company
·Sandbox, the little-known quantum team of Google's parent company alphabet, is preparing to spin off.
·Sandbox team currently works in Google x lunar incubator.
·Sandbox was founded by Google co-founder Sergey Brin and is now led by Jack hidary.
According to a report on the business insider website, the secret quantum technology team of Google's parent company alphabet is preparing to split into an independent company.
Sandbox, commonly known as Sandbox@Alphabet It was originally founded by Google co-founder Sergey Brin and led by entrepreneur Jack hidary for more than four years.
Unlike Google's quantum computing team in Santa Barbara (quantum Artificial Intelligence Laboratory), Sandbox focuses on software and more experimental quantum projects. It is located in Google's lunar incubator and is called X, although it is essentially a separate unit.
According to two people familiar with the matter, hidary now plans to split sandbox into an independent company. They asked not to be identified when discussing private plans.
In November 2021, hidary signed a California regulatory document to apply for the establishment of a company called sb technologies, Inc The company will operate in the state and is headquartered in San Francisco. In recent weeks, a website associated with the company, sandboxquantum Com also appeared, but as of January 10, the website had no information.
The source said that separating sandbox from alphabet could allow hidary to accelerate its action without constraints and raise funds from investors outside Google.
A spokesman for alphabet declined to comment. Hidary did not respond to requests for comment.

Google has been studying quantum computers for years. These machines use technologies that are very different from classical computers. Existing systems rely on bits representing 1 and 0 to complete their tasks. In contrast, qubits broaden the boundaries of physics by representing both 1 and 0. In theory, many qubits working together will create a computer whose computing speed will increase exponentially.
Wired first reported the existence of the second quantum team of alphabet in early 2020, although it was not named at that time. A spokesman previously told business insider that although sandbox works outside the X building and there are a large number of former employees of Google's x lunar landing laboratory in the team, it is not a part of X. However, according to two people familiar with the matter, hidary still reports to Astro teller, director of X.
Before hidary came to power, the team was called "Sergey's sandbox". A source said that Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, continued to provide advice to the sandbox team.

In an interview in November 2021, hidary said that the sandbox team focused on "enterprise solutions where quantum physics and artificial intelligence intersect." This includes the use of quantum technology to improve the accuracy of health sensors. According to VentureBeat's previous report, the team also used Google's tensor processing unit (TPU) to simulate quantum computing workload.
It is unclear whether hidary (an expert in computer science, machine learning and Quantum Computing) will continue to cooperate with Google after the sandbox split, or whether alphabet will have any stake in the development of the sandbox team.
However, the search giant has made a lot of bets on quantum elsewhere. In 2021, Google launched a new quantum artificial intelligence campus in Santa Barbara and expressed the hope to build a practical quantum computer within ten years.
Other technology giants are also increasing their investment in quantum. Amazon launched quantum cloud service on AWS. In 2021, Microsoft's venture capital company participated in the $450 million investment of start-up psiquantum. In a report in December 2021, CB insights stressed that the cloud is becoming a key area of quantum competition among technology giants.
