Another award for "Jiuzhang" quantum computer: annual scientific breakthrough of falling walls in 2021

Falling walls in Germany is an international scientific platform. Its name is used to commemorate the "fall of the Berlin Wall" in 1989. The annual falling walls science summit is ongoing (November 7-9). The highlight of the summit is the "top ten scientific breakthroughs in 2021", which will be displayed on November 9, the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Falling walls "top ten scientific breakthroughs in 2021" has been solicited globally since March 2021 and has been officially announced. Pan Jianwei and Lu Chaoyang from the University of science and technology of China won this honor for "proving the superiority of quantum computing by photons" ("Jiuzhang").

This is another international recognition after the "Jiuzhang" were selected as the top ten global innovative achievements of UNESCO netexplo forum in April this year.

The following is the evaluation of falling walls on the superiority experiment of "Jiuzhang" quantum computing:

Pan Jianwei, Lu Chaoyang and their team developed high-performance non classical light sources and multiphoton interference, using 100 × The 100 mode interferometer detects up to 76 photons and realizes Bose sampling, which produces 1030 Hilbert state space dimension, which is 1014 faster than using the most advanced simulation strategy on the supercomputer.

The proof of the superiority of quantum computing is the computational simulation of bell experiment. Just as Bell's experiment refutes Einstein's local hidden variable model, Pan's experiment refutes the generalized church Turing thesis, which asserts that classical computers can simulate the computing power of any physical process with polynomial overhead. Pan's experiment is of far-reaching significance for both basic reasons (because quantum mechanics is the only physical theory that has changed our computing model so far) and practical reasons (because it will greatly increase our confidence in the ultimate feasibility of large-scale quantum computing).
