With the proposal of China's 2060 carbon neutrality goal, green hydrogen, as a green secondary energy linking renewable energy and terminal application scenarios, will play an important role in deep decarbonization in the fields of industry, construction, and transportation.

This report focuses on exploring the cost structure of green hydrogen and exploring the cost reduction path of green hydrogen from the perspective of China.

Hydrogen energy as a clean, safe, and sustainable secondary energy, can be produced from coal, natural gas and petroleum, industrial by-product, and renewable energy, etc. In terms of the low-carbon transformation of China’s energy system and the carbon neutrality goal by 2060, production from renewables without carbon-emission(green hydrogen) or from coal/natural with CCUS technology with little carbon-emission(blue hydrogen) are the important technology choices.

From the cost perspective, the cost of hydrogen production from natural gas without and with CCUS is about 17 and 21 yuan/kg respectively, increases by 23.5% when combined with CCUS; the cost of hydrogen production from coal without and with CCUS is about 9 and 18.8 yuan/kg, respectively, increases after combining with CCUS About 108.8%.
